Lonergan poll shows majority of SA voters want Kangaroo Island protected

Q. Do you think the coast of Kangaroo Island should be protected from planned oil and gas drilling?

The majority (72%) of South Australian voters believe the coast of Kangaroo Island should be protected from planned oil and gas drilling. 12 % were unsure, and 16% believed it should be allowed.

Taking out those who were unsure, 82% of South Australians wanted Kangaroo Island to be protected.

Percentage of those who believe Kangaroo Island should be protected from planned oil and gas drilling by voting intention:

·         86% of Greens voters

·         79% of Labor voters

·         63% of Liberal voters

·         78% of voters for other parties or candidates

Female voters are also more likely to believe the coast of Kangaroo Island should be protected from planned oil and gas drilling (82% compared to 63% male voters).

About the survey:

·         Conducted by Lonergan poll conducted on behalf of the Australian Greens via voice automated telephone interviewing across South Australia on 20 and 21 July, 2013

·         A random-digit dialling methodology was employed around known exchanges.

·         A total of 1582 interviews were conducted.

·         After interviewing, responses were weighted to population estimates derived from the 2011 Census.
