On Thursday 10th December 2009, the Dalai Lama celebrated 20 years since being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize by holding a talk in Melbourne. Scott and Sarah had the honour of being there, and met with his Holiness after his speech.

facility and talk to some of the refugees about their experiences.

In July 2009, the first cross-party parliamentary delegation from Australia visited the Tibetan Government-in-Exile in Dharamsala, India. The delegation comprised Greens Senators Sarah Hanson-Young and Scott Ludlam, Independent Senator Nick Xenophon, Labor MPs Melissa Parke and Michael Danby, and Coalition MP Peter Slipper.

Press conference at Parliament House on Wednesday 27 May 2009, with Independent MPs Rob Oakeshott and Tony Windsor, and a delegation of concerned students and parents speaking out about how they will be affected by the proposed changes to Youth Allowance in the Budget.

Community meeting in Renmark, South Australia on Friday 29 May 2009 to meet with high school students, university students, parents and teachers concerned about the impact of the proposed Youth Allowance changes on young people in rural areas.

The National Union of Students organised a National Day of Action around the theme 'Demand a better future: less talk, more action'. The action at Adelaide University focussed on the need for better income support for students, pointing out that although the age of independence for single students to receive income support from Centrelink is 25 years, students can get married and receive Youth Allowance at a younger age.
