Giving Barnaby Joyce the keys to a multi-million dollar water slush fund is a recipe for disaster, the Australian Greens have said.
“Letting Barnaby Joyce loose across Northern Australia with his very own pork barrelling fund is dangerous,” the Greens’ water spokesperson, Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
“The Nationals have a questionable environmental record and spending $440 million on Barnaby’s boondoggle is a recipe for disaster.
“There needs to be a fully independent environmental and economic cost benefit analysis done on each and every project before they’re given the go ahead.
“A white-elephant graveyard across the North of our country won’t help anyone, but I fear that’s where this is heading.
“The water supply of our Northern treasures, from the Kakadu National Park and Daintree Rainforest through to the Great Barrier Reef, are too precious to put at risk.”
