Conflicting reports from service providers on Nauru and Minister Dutton that the refugee boy suffering from a seriously broken arm on Nauru will be transferred to India for surgery, rather than being brought back to Australia, is a national disgrace.
"Minister Dutton claims there are no plans to send this boy to India yet the service providers on Nauru have told the family he will be transferred there for treatment. The confusion for this family just adds to the torment and anguish they are already feeling. It's time for this government to come clean and to immediately bring the boy to Australia," Greens spokesperson for immigration Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
"For heaven's sake, this about the urgent care needed by a young boy who is suffering and in pain. It could be easily fixed if the Australian government just did their job properly
"The Australian government dumped this young boy and his family on Nauru and should bring him to Australia now, not palm him off onto another country to deal with
"Not only is the proposed transfer of this boy to India a national disgrace but Australian taxpayers would be left to foot the bill if the transfer goes ahead.
"If it's true, it's just total madness. You couldn't make this stuff up, what on earth is going on?
