An obviously faked version of a statement made by Senator Sarah Hanson-Young on the 16th of December 2014, in the aftermath of the tragic siege in Sydney, has been circulating online.
The photoshopped version of the statement should not be circulated further as the Australian Federal Police are investigating the source of the fabrication.
"It's disappointing that some people have altered the statement in such a sinister way, seeking to impersonate me and politicise this tragic event," Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
"My thoughts remain with the victims and their families."
The real post, which is unedited and still available on the Senator's Facebook page, reads;
We are absolutely devastated to learn of the tragic end to the hostage incident in Sydney.
We extend our greatest sympathies and thoughts to all those affected by this incredible tragedy.
To the victims, their families and friends, police and health workers, and to anyone around the nation watching at home impacted by this morning's tragic events our hearts go out to you.
It is critical that the nation comes together today.
We should comfort one another and open our arms in warm embrace to all peace-loving people regardless of faith, race or nationality.
We commend the courage and professionalism of the police and other emergency services involved.
