Greens fear SA public servants will lose under Abbott controlled Parliament

Media Release
Sarah Hanson-Young 4 Jul 2013

The Australian Greens today commented on the Australia Institute’s report showing that Tony Abbott plans to cut 534 public service jobs in South Australia if he wins the Federal Election.

“South Australians are not immune to the slash and burn of an Abbott-led government,” Greens Senator for South Australia Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“We don’t want to see 534 South Australian public service jobs get the knife for the sake of a quick Coalition cash-grab. These jobs will be cut from frontline services, like health and education.

“Tony Abbott is promising to eliminate 12,000 Australian public service jobs and the Greens fear he won’t stop there.

“Cuts to public service jobs are just another way for the old parties to sidestep what really needs to be done to raise revenue by fixing the mining tax and cutting subsidies to polluters.

“Only a strong Greens voice in the Senate will be enough to stand up for the South Australian public servants who are on Abbott’s chopping block.
