Quality must be assured for parents accessing in home care: Greens

Media Release
Sarah Hanson-Young 28 Apr 2015

Quality education and care must be assured for parents looking for in home care for their children, the Australian Greens have said today.

"Minister Morrison’s nannies pilot program quite simply looks like a rebadging of the In Home Care program”, Greens spokesperson for Early Childhood Education and Care, Senator Hanson-Young said.

“The Minister needs to confirm whether this is new money or if it is being taken from the existing In Home Care program.

“Accessing a nanny through the In Home Care program has always been difficult for parents. The Minister should be focusing on improving the current scheme and assisting providers to meet the national quality standards.

“Enabling parents to better access services that suit their needs is important, but this cannot come at the cost of quality education and care.

“The Abbott government needs to ensure that families who need flexible care can actually get it and have faith it is delivering quality outcomes for their children.

“This can be achieved by expanding the In Home Care program and improving the quality of care delivered via these services.
