Today the Australian Greens stand in solidarity with the Adnyamathanha Traditional Land Owners opposing in-situ gasification at the old Leigh Creek mine site.
“Leigh Creek Energy is trying to push ahead with a dangerous technology in a sacred Adnyamathanha cultural site with complete disregard for a unanimous no vote from the community,” South Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.
“We’ve seen the devastation this technology wreaks in Queensland with Linc Energy. Queensland is just the latest in a string of governments around the world who’ve banned this dangerous technology. To give it approval in South Australia now, under the cover of a ‘trial’, makes no sense.
“The South Australian government must look at the evidence, listen to the Traditional Owners and immediately revoke their approval.”
