Greens’ agency could save SA families $180m on electricity bills

An Energy Savings Agency announced by the Australian Greens has the potential to save South Australian home owners more than $180 million on their electricity bills each year.

“South Australian families are under pressure like never before,” South Australian Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“The Greens Energy Savings Agency has the potential to cut the average family electricity bill by $250 a year. That’s a saving of over $180 million for the 725,000 residential electricity account holders in South Australia.

Greens call on government to fix health crisis in Fleurieu

The Australian Greens have called on the government to step in and fix an impending healthcare crisis in the state’s south after 40 GPs resigned in the Fleurieu and called on Tony Abbott to outline what he would do to fix the situation if elected as Prime Minister.

“Every measure must be taken to avert this impending crisis and I call on the Federal Government to give a guarantee to Goolwa, Middleton and Victor Harbor residents that they won’t be left stranded,” South Australian Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young said.

The Australian Greens have today paid tribute to Mayor Joy Baluch, a courageous advocate for the Port Augusta community.

"I met Joy on a trip to Port Augusta last year to see first-hand the strong community campaign for renewable energy," Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.

"A fitting tribute to her memory would be to fulfil her dream of repowering Port Augusta with solar energy."

Greens announce Adelaide candidate

The Greens have announced Ruth Beach as the party’s candidate for the seat of Adelaide in the upcoming Federal Election.

Speaking at the Prospect Fair this weekend, South Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said Ms Beach would be a passionate advocate for the people of her home city.

Cuts to SA community sport funding must be reversed

The Greens will move a motion in the Senate this week condemning the SA Government’s $3.5 million cuts to funding for community sporting clubs.

“Community sport is crucial in Australia and I am worried that this decision will rip the heart and soul out of many towns and neighbourhoods across our state,” South Australian Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“The social and health benefits of community sporting clubs are well known and I urge the Premier to recognise that and reinstate the funding that these clubs so desperately need.

Around 10,000 South Australian single parents will have their support payments slashed following changes that will take effect from January the 1st.

“It’ll be an unhappy new year for thousands of families around South Australia this January when their already meagre single parents’ payments are cut,” Greens Senator for South Australia, Sarah Hanson-Young said.

“Forcing thousands of single mums to survive on Newstart is the Labor Party’s way of finding a budget surplus on the backs of Australia’s most vulnerable families.
